Vineyard - Geology

Domaine de Nalys stretches over fifty hectares and three main terroirs that are highly renowned in the appellation Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with blocks called 'Grand Pierre', 'Bois Sénéchal' and 'La Crau'.

Grape Varieties

All of the appellation´s 13 permitted grape varieties are represented in the vineyard. They allow to bring greater complexity and balance to the wine. Out of the red grapes, Grenache dominates (60%) and Syrah follows (30%). Next come the six other varieties (10%): Counoise, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Muscardin, Vaccarèse and Black Terret.

Vinification - Maturation

Picking is done entirely by hand. Generally speaking, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Grenache are fermented separately. The length of fermentation varies from 15 to 30 days to perfectly extract the vintage´s full potential. Temperature control helps colour and tannin extraction with a pre-fermentation cold soak followed by temperature peaks right up to 86°F or higher. Maturation lasts from 12 to 18 months partly in concrete vats and partly in wood.

Tasting Note

Lovely intense and bright ruby red color. The nose is expressive with aromas of red berries, leather and spices. It’s round and generous in the mouth, with dense and firm tannins. Good length on the palate, with a freshness and acidity which make expect an interesting capacity for ageing.
